Dr. M. Manzoor-i-Khuda

Dr. M. Manzoor-i-Khuda was born in 1933 in Calcutta of British India. He had an outstanding academic career culminating with first in First Class positions with gold medals both in his B.Sc. (Honours) and MSc degrees from the Dhaka University. He took his Ph.D. and D.I.C. Degrees from Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London in December, 1957 while working as a prestigious Royal Exhibition of 1851 scholar. After a year of post doctoral fellowship in Canada he returned to Pakistan and engaged in researches on plant product chemistry in various capacities including Director, Jute Research Institute (Technology) and Director, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Laboratories in Bangladesh. During these tenures he also held post doctoral fellowships in England as Nuffield Foundation Fellow (1964-65) and as Alexander von Humboldt Fellow in Germany (1971-73 and 1978) at various times and published over one hundred papers. His research topics include isolation, structure studies and synthesis of compounds isolated from medicinal herbs, aromatic and essential oil bearing plants; fibre chemistry of jute; reaction studies and pharmacological studies of plant products. He has also developed keen interest in cosmic creation in space and time.
The family heritage of spiritual submission and science is reflected in his family tree, coming from his grand father who was an eminent spiritual guide and his father Dr. Qudrat-i-Khuda an eminent scientist. His interest to study religion as a source of knowledge resulted in twenty-one publications on Science and Islam including two books on the subject. He has travelled the world extensively on study visits and religious pilgrimage, visiting over fifty countries so far. Currently, besides some advisory assignments, he spends most of his time travelling, studying and writing on his favourite subject on the science of creation and religion.
